THANE, JANUARY 27: Over one lakh employees from 227 municipal councils in the State would go on an indefinite strike from March 15, to press for their various demands, according to Madhu Joshi, vice-president of Civic Employees Union Federation.

Joshi told PTI here on Thursday that the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the civic employees unions at Ahmednagar last week-end.

The demands of employees, pending with the State Government, include implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission, making permanent workers taken on temporary basis, and restoration of the octroi, withdrawal of which has caused undue hardships and burden to civic councils, Joshi said.

Next week, a meeting of the union would be held at Mumbai where the final programme would be finalised and a strike coordination committee would be formed, Joshi added.
