Eyebrows are being raised over the official participation of the Jharkhand government in a yoga camp for Baba Ramdev. What’s also causing consternation in Ranchi is that the Morhabadi Maidan has been stripped clean of all greenery for the camp which is expected to draw an estimated 20,000 crowd.
Baba Ramdev, the founding father of the Hardwar-based Patanjali Yog Peeth (PYP), will be holding a seven-day camp. Some 50 hoardings with pictures of the Baba, 14 towers of 10 sodium lights, 12 stalls and a pandal have come up.
Among those attending the camp—from February 19 to 26—will be Chief Minister Arjun Munda who is the patron of the organising committee. The panel is headed by Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar. Some 50 truckloads of silica, brought from stone crushing units, has been dumped on the ground. A PYP team which inspected the ground with Kumar has expressed satisfaction over the arrangements.
Tickets to the camp vary from Rs 250 to Rs 2,100. A souvenir would be released on the inaugural day. “Money collected through advertisements and ticket sale will be handed over to Baba Ramdev,” says Kumar.
