Kini papers safe: CBI

n Joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, Mahendra Kumavat today reiterated that none of the Kini case papers were lost in the stolen bag belonging to DIG A K Mathur on August 2.

Kumavat said the papers DIG Mathur has lost had no connection with the Kini case investigation and news reports to the contrary were wrong. Mathur had gone to visit Dr Shyam Aggrawal on Saturday, when the bag was stolen from his car parked opposite the Maharashtra Apartments on S V Road in Malad. Police are investigating.

Aug 9 holiday

The state government has declared Saturday, August 9 which is being celebrated as `Kranti Divas’ as a public holiday, under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The holiday will however be restricted within Greater Mumbai limits, the Mantralaya announcement said today.

IIT convocation

In its 35th convocation the IIT, Powai today conferred an all time high of 975 degrees at under-graduate, post-graduate and doctorate levels. Eminent jurist Nani A Palkhivala delivered the convocation address. While the President of India gold medal was awarded to Amit Chakrabarti , the Shankar Dayal Sharma gold went to Abhishek Agarwal from the same specialisation. Thirteen students received the institute’s silver medal.
