NASHIK, Jan 5: The ambitious Mumbai-Manmad oil pipeline project of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) is nearly complete and is likely to be commissioned on May 1, BPCL officials said.

The oil terminus has been located at Panewadi, about five km from Manmad. The 253 km pipeline laid from Trombay to Panewadi at the cost of about Rs 500 crore, winds its way via Thane, Bhiwandi, Shahapur, Washala, Shinde, Niphad and Nadur Madhyameshwar dam. The pipeline would be operational for 300 days in a year.

Officials said 600 tankers would transport petrol and petroleum products daily. The Manmad-Nandgaon road is being widened to accommodate the rise in traffic. The BPCL is also considering a proposal for extending the pipeline to Bhopal.
