
Husband sets wife ablaze
An irate husband from Gamdevi set his wife ablaze because she refused to cook for him. Oshiwara police say Krishan Sahu lived with his wife Jokhnadevi in Gamdevi Housing Society. On August 18, the couple fought after which Jokhna refused to do her chores including the cooking. Sahu then doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. Jokhan succumbed to 100 per cent burns. A case of murder has been registered against Sahu, who is absconding.
Marathi actor Suryakant dead
Veteran Marathi film actor Suryakant Mandhare died at a private hospital in Pune today following a heart attack. He was 73. Born in 1926 in Kolhapur, Suryakant began his career at the age of 12. His first film was Dhruv. He acted in more than 110 films in his career spanning five decades. His roles in films with historical and social themes like Ganimi Kava, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Shikleli Bayako, Kanyadan and Jyotibacha Navas were highly acclaimed. His portrayal of characters of Chhatrapati Shivaji andSambhaji in films won him accolades. His other famous films were Paunakathcha Dhondi, Punavechi Ratra, Pathcha Bhau, Sadhi Manasa, Mohityanchi Manjula, Rangapanchami and Amhi Jato Amchya Gava.
Man murdered at Marol
MIDC police found a bleeding Aziz Mukadam near Ravi Vihar hotel at Saatbag Road at Marol Industrial Estate at 4.35 am today. Mukadam had been assaulted by four armed men who attacked him with knives and choppers. He was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.
