Kruti Parekh selected UNEP laureate

Kruti Parekh was today selected by the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP as one of its 17 environment laureate, according to an Associated Press report.

Speaking ata presentation ceremony in Tokyo, the Mumbai-based 13-year-old Parekh, like a seasoned public speaker, said the environmental task was not one person8217;s job, it required the cooperation of the whole society or community.

Sharing the table with UN under-secretary general and UNEP executive director, Klaus Topfer, she spoke of her vermiculture project in the cityin which she uses earthworms to turn garden garbage into manure. She also uses this technique at home.
