3 killed in tanker accident

Three persons, including the driver and cleaner of an empty tanker, died on the spot when their vehicle sliped from the road and fell into a water-logged ditch on the Mankhurd-Govandi link road this afternoon. According to the police, the tanker belonging to Trimoorthy Transport Company, was on its way from Ghatkopar to Mankhurd Link Road when the incident occurred. The tanker slipped on the rain drenched road and the three occupants could not come out, police said identifying the victims as driver Satish Tore 25, cleaner Revand Tore 28 and Tukaram Tore 23.

Couple accused of fraud

The Economic Offences Wing EOW of the Crime Branch has registered a case of fraud against a couple who have allegedly defrauded several traders of over Rs 64 lakh. A manhunt has been launched for Ketan Mehta and his wife, Meeta, who had advertised for chemicals in bulk quantity. A Taloja-based businessman, Jignesh Shah, responded and supplied Napthol ASG, estimated at Rs 7.8lakh, to the Mehtas in December last year. However, the couple failed to pay up and several cheques issued by them too bounced. They also disappeared without notice. Shah lodged a complaint with the EOW, whose sleuths discovered that they had cheated several businessmen to the tune of over Rs 64 lakh.

Mamta Kulkarni granted bail

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate K H Holambe-Patil today released actress Mamta Kulkarni on bail of Rs 2,000. The starlet appeared before the magistrate in response to a summons in connection with a case of obscenity. Earlier, she had failed to appear in court despite several reminders. Finally, she was given a warning and asked to surrender before the court by June 2.

The case was filed by the Social Service branch of the Crime Branch after an allegedly obscene photograph of Kulkarni appeared on the cover of Stardust magazine in September 1993. She was charged with obscenity and has been charged under the Indecent Representation of Women Act, 1996.

HSCresults

The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate HSC examinations will be declared on June 5 at 3 pm. Students can collect their marksheets from their respective colleges after 3 pm. According to a press release issued by the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune, the last date for submitting forms for revaluation is June 19. For October examinations, forms have to be submitted by June 28.
