Hearing three writ petitions filed by the Bombay Environmental Action Group BEAG and Shankar Brahme Samajividyan Granthalaya, a division bench of Justice BP Saraf and Justice AY Sakhare also directed the Advocate General to submit a status report in the investigations made by the Collector of Pune on the extent of forest land covered by the project and also the investigations by the Ranganathan Committee into Sahara8217;s land deals.

City colleges face action

Three colleges in south Mumbai face action by the Deputy Director of Education for flouting rules on admissions for first year junior college.Jai Hind, HR College of Commerce and KC College of Arts, Science and Commerce were found to have already put up the first merit list and collected admission fees from theconcerned candidates on July 3 in spite of a state government regulation that had prevented all colleges from doing so.

Last week at a meeting of college principals on drawing a schedule for FYJC admissions, it was decided that the colleges would sell the admission forms between June 30 -July 2 and accept the same between July 3 and July 6. The first merit list was to be displayed only on July 8.

State seminar on disaster mgmt

Alarmed by the frequent problem of waterlogging in the metropolis during monsoon and the related problems like disruption of rail and road transport, the state government is organising an international workshop on disaster management plan. The three-day workshop will be inaugurated on Monday by Governor Dr P C Alexander, while the valedictory session will be addressed by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi on Wednesday.
