The former DSP, who hit the headlines recently when he resigned alleging pressure from political leaders to not pursue the case against an Independent legislator in UP, is all set to join politics to ‘‘streamline the existing system’’. The party he is targeting is the Samajwadi Party and he has given enough hints to the BJP that he is more than willing to join the saffron party.

Former Special Task Force DSP Shailendra Kumar Singh had quit from his post early this month, saying he was under pressure from political quarters to give up his campaign against Independent legislator Mukhtar Ansari.

‘‘The Samajwadi Party is a party ruled by criminals, while the BJP still has the potential to be a party with a difference which was proved when D.P. Yadav was shown the door. But I could contest the coming general elections as an Independent to safeguard the morals for which I resigned,’’ Singh said, adding that though he had not yet received any proposal (from the BJP), he would respond positively when he gets such an offer.

Sources said that the BJP has reacted ‘‘positively’’ to Singh’s decision, and a senior leader has even said that a formal proposal inviting the former cop into the party’s fold would be sent to him soon.

The SP, for its part, said the former DSP only wants publicity which was clear when he resigned.
