LUCKNOW, NOV 16: Describing Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh as anti-Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Bahujan Samaj Party vice-president Mayawati on Monday lashed out at him for walking out of the Lok Sabha along with his party MPs when the Bill to extend reservations for SC/STs was being introduced and passed on October 27.

Regarding his demand for 54 per cent quota for the backwards among Hindus and Muslims, she said it was all humbug. “Though Mulayam Singh calls himself the messiah of Dalits, backwards and minorities, from my experience I know he can’t be a well-wisher of any community, not even the Yadav community he belongs to,” she said.

She pointed out that peeved over Mulayam Singh’s style of functioning, veteran SP leader Mitrasen Yadav, along with a sitting MLA Ramchandra Yadav and more than 100 panchayat-level leaders and workers had today joined her party. “He is selfish and ready to betray even his closest friends for self-interest,” she said. Before the Lok Sabha elections, he hadentered into an accord with then Chief Minister Kalyan Singh in the presence of former prime minister Chandra Shekhar to help each other at the time of crisis, she alleged.

She claimed that Kalyan Singh even misused the official machinery to help Mulayam win more seats. But Mulayam refused to oblige Kalyan when he sought his legislature party’s help to remain in power just before he was replaced by the BJP leadership on the ground that Muslims would drift to other parties if his party helped Kalyan Singh, she alleged.

She said the new state government would fall soon and a mid-term poll held in March-April.
