NEW DELHI, SEPT 2: Maruti Udyog Ltd has recorded a 20.4 per cent drop in sales at 29,795 cars in August this year against 35,869 units in the same month last year. The company, however, registered a 13 per cent increase in sales as compared to 26,379 units in July this year, a company release said here today.During August 2000, the company sold 14,921 units of its entry level car Maruti 800, 5731 units of Omni van, 5525 units of premium small car Zen and 2277 units of its recently-launched car Wagon-R, the release said.Sales of its mid-size car Esteem were recorded at 1,044units while the luxury sedan Baleno sales touched 297 units during the month. Maruti sold a total of 31,117 vehicles in August this year of which 1122 units were exported. The company also sold 200 units of Gypsy in the domestic market.Hyundai Motor India’s domestic car sales have gone up marginally by 2.6 per cent to 7185 units in August this year compared to 7002 units sold in the same month of 1999. However, sales of its premium small car Santro dipped by 18 per cent to 5,729 units.
