MUMBAI, JULY 18: The Bombay High Court was informed on Friday that the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) has collected Rs 5.7 crore from Power Plant Performance Ltd (PPPIL) which it had advanced to the company against a contract for retrofitting 15 turbines.

Counsel for the MSEB, Atul Rajadhyaksha, made the submissions following a civil application made by petitioner Digvijay Khanwilkar whose public interest litigation against MSEB’s Rs 189 crore contract to PPPIL led to the high court ordering a CBI enquiry into the deal. In his civil application, Khanwilkar had claimed that though the contract with PPPIL had been scrapped in January 1999, the advance given to the company had not been obtained back by the MSEB.

At the court of Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Rajadhyaksha said that MSEB has received Rs 6.66 crore from PPPIL along with the interest charged at 17.06 per cent.
