Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Jamuna Devi on Monday filed a complaint with the Lokayukta against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Prepared with the help of senior Supreme Court lawyer Vivek Tankha, Devi’s complaint filed under Section 7 of the MP Lokayukta Evam Up-Lokayukta Act of 1981 for corruption-related offences also names Chouhan’s wife Sadhna Singh and directors of JP Associates.

Devi had recently undertaken a day’s fast charging Chouhan and his ministerial colleagues with corrupt practices. She said she was forced to approach the Lokayukta because the ‘accused’ and the Government were not ready to answer questions raised by her.

Her complaint, accompanied by an affidavit, alleged that JP Associates had recently been handed over papers for land in Naubasta, Kachur, Atrauli, Gadhwah, Chhigwar, Kohadhan and Jonahi villages in violation of land laws. Also, the company was allotted land belonging to Water Resources Department. “Land for mining can’t be allotted without taking consent from farmers concerned,” Devi said.

Referring to the purchase of four trucks by Sadhna Singh, which were rented to J P Associates and later sold to the same company, Devi said the affidavit Chouhan submitted while seeking election to the Assembly did not mention the vehicles as his property.

Devi said despite repeated requests, Chouhan has not disclosed his assets acquired during his tenure as the CM. The complaint alleged that rules were flouted in the award of mining contracts to the company in Satna, Rewa and Sidhi districts and accused the CM of having commercial ties with the Rewa-based company.
