All candidates for the coming Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh would have to declare details of their assets, criminal background, if any and educational qualifications while filing their nomination papers.

It would be mandatory for candidates to make a declaration about this information in the form of an affidavit together with their nominations, official sources said.

A candidate’s nomination would be rejected if an affidavit is not furnished along with the required information about movable and immovable properties and criminal records. The information presented in the affidavits would be displayed in the notice board of the electoral office, sources said adding the instructions regarding this arrangement received from the Election Commission have been conveyed to district collectors. As per the rules, candidates would be required to give information as to whether they were convicted for any criminal act in the past and if they were awarded a sentence of more than two years’ imprisonment.

They would also have to inform whether they were prosecuted in any criminal case within a period of six months before filing of the nomination papers. Information about conviction or acquittal of candidates in criminal cases are required to be submitted in a prescribed proforma.

There would be a separate proforma for giving detailed information on movable and immovable properties held by him as also his family members.
