More than 25,000 people remained buried by rubble after the massive earthquake that struck southwestern China, state media, Xinhua reported on Wednesday.

Another 14,000 were missing, meaning that the reported death toll of 15,000 — most of them in Sichuan province — could soar as rescuers reach areas worst hit by Monday’s 7.9 magnitude quake.
