PATIALA, March 11: A three-day workshop on the need for promoting self-instructional material was organised by the Department of Correspondence Courses at the Punjabi University, in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Open University, New Delhi, here today.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr R.M. Goel, pro vice-chancellor of the university. While inagurating the workshop, Dr Goel highlighted the relevance of distance education to meet the growing need of education.

Dr Santosh Panda stressed the need and importance of modifying the traditional print material into self-instructional material so as to enhance the students8217; capability for independent learning. Since more than six million students are getting education through the system of distance education, it is necessary that different CCIs should plan to pool the expertise available and prepare the course material collectively, said Dr Panda. Earlier Dr B.S. Khaira of the Dept of Correspondence Courses, welcomed the guests. Head of Dept of Correspondence Courses Dr J.S. Brar, introduced to the audience to Dr Santosh Panda and Dr Madhu Parhar, both of whom have been organising workshops.
