Mittal to lead rice millers’ team to S S Barnala

CHANDIGARH, Dec 2: Punjab Food and Supplies Minister Madan Moihan Mittal would lead a delegation of the Punjab Rice Millers Joint Action Committee to Union Food Minister Surjit Singh Barnala tomorrow.

He agreed to take up demands of the rice millers with Barnala at a meeting with the joint action committee here today. The action committee is pressing the centre to further relax the specifications of regarding brokerage, yield and moisture.

Committee convenor Gian Bhardwaj claimed the state goverenment had agreed to decrease secrity for custom milling from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000. The rates of bardana for 1996-97 were also cleared at the meeting. It was also decided to decide the arbitration cases relating to 1994-95 at the earliest.
