The Ministry of Power has finalised the second list of 13 private power projects totalling 4500 mw for achieving financial closure by September 2004. The first list of 18 IPPs, with a capacity of around 7500 mw, was announced by the ministry in January for financial closure by March 31.

The new list, likely to be announced by the power ministry in the first week of April, will include the Aditya Birla group promoted 578 mw Bina thermal power project in Madhya Pradesh, GVK promoted 500 mw Goindwal Sahib project in Punjab, BPL group owned 520 mw Ramagundam thermal project in Andhra Pradesh, the 1047 mw Kattupali project of Chennai Power Corporation, Lanco group promoted 250 mw Pathadi thermal project in Chhatisgarh, Jindals promoted 100 mw Sainj hydro project in Punjab and others. The 13 IPP projects identified under this list amounts to a capacity of 4417 mw.

Power secretary R V Shahi said that out of the 7500 mw capacity identified for financial closure by March 31, more than 4000 mw of IPP projects have already achieved financial closure.

‘‘The remaining 3500 mw are also progressing as per schedule to meet the March 31 deadline set by the ministry. I am confident that financial closure of all these 18 projects would be achieved as scheduled. After this we plan to take another set of 13 projects with the FIs and IPPs for financial closure in the next 6-8 months,’’ Shahi said.
