West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s decision to deploy Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed in Nandigram has been strongly opposed by the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), a Left Front partner.

Senior RSP leader and Public Works Department Minister Kshiti Goswami has opposed the Chief Minister’s decision to send CRPF to Nandigram. “The entry of the CRPF into Nandigram will send a wrong message to the people,” Goswami said. The minister said his party wanted a discussion on the issue during the next Left Front meeting, but the CPI(M) is more interested in holding one-to-one talks. “We had opposed the deployment of CRPF during the last elections. It’s difficult for the Central forces to tackle local issues. Our forces, if properly utilised, can do a much better job,” he said.

Goswami has lately been making strong statements on some decisions of the state Government. He had expressed reservation against the continuation of the judicial inquiry into Rizwanur Rehman’s mysterious death. Later, the Chief Minister winded up the judicial inquiry.
