A policeman and an unidentified terrorist were killed and two persons injured in separate incidents today in J-K. Police also foiled an attempt to trigger an improvised explosive device, a police spokesman said.
Policeman Mohammad Ramzan was shot dead by militants at Rajpora in Pulwama district of South Kashmir when he was on duty, the spokesman said. The militants also took away the service rifle of the deceased jawan, he said.
An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with security forces during search operations at Halmatpora at Kupwara in North Kashmir this morning, the spokesman said. An AK assault rifle and three magazines were recovered from the deceased militant.
Meanwhile, one of the accused in the massacre of 30 migrant Hindu labourers in Qasim Nagar locality of Jammu city last year, today escaped from police lockup in Surankote of Poonch district, police sources said here.
Altaf Hussain, a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) member of a six member group that included a foreign mercenary and a LeT hitman, Abu Tallah, involved in the massacre on July 13 last year, gave a slip to security men and escaped from the police lockup early this morning, the sources said. Hussain, a resident of Fazalabad village of Surankote was taken there sometime back, they said.
