In a fresh yet veiled threat to the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led coalition, PDP Patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed said here on Friday that his party will have to rethink on continuing the allinace if the Government did not “mend its ways”.

“So far, the coalition has run smoothly, but there are some hurdles that are telling on its performance,” said Mufti. “My party cadre including ministers, MLAs and MLCs are not happy with the performance of the Government and if this affects our credibility among people, we may have to rethink on continuing in the coalition,” he said while talking to the media in Jammu.

Here to preside over a PDP meeting organised to discuss poll preparations in Jammu, the former CM said the PDP was in favour of letting the Government complete its full term. He said there were some “hurdles” in taking ahead the “laudable objectives” of the coalition Government defined under the Common Minimum Programme.

“The feedback from my party leaders and functionaries is also not good… they are not satisfied with the performance of the Government on many fronts… Iska asar agar credibility pe padega to hum doosra rasta bhi chun sakte hain (and if this affects our credibility, we may have to think of a different course),” he said.

However, claiming that the coalition Government had survived in the most difficult and adverse conditions, Mufti said it would be better if “coalition dharma” was followed in its true spirit. “… Look at the coalition at the Centre… there can be no more important yet controversial issue than the nuclear deal on which one partner raised objection and the Government had to give it a second thought,” he said.
