The Indian men’s hockey team flattered to deceive as they succumbed to Olympic champions the Netherlands 1-2 to lose the Naval Tata Memorial hockey series here today. The visitors wrapped up the three-match series 2-0 after the first Test ended in a one-all draw.
Star striker Teun de Nooijer was back in business. The FIH ‘Player Of The Year’ awardee, who failed to open his account in the first two games, struck both the goals.

The Indian forwards simply failed to put the ball in with the main culprit being Sandeep Michael. The basics were missing. The Dutch, were a much superior team on the day. The Indians did get the open space and poor finishing by the forwards saw them end up on a losing note. The Indian midfield of Ignace Tirkey, Viren Rasquinha, Bimal Lakra and Vikram Pillay, the player of the series, did not show the same form. But it was Bimal who had the best game on the day.
