Ahead of the Indo-Pak foreign ministers’ meet, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has come up with some interesting suggestions to improve relations between the two countries.

Putting her proposals before the UPA meeting today, Mehbooba said weekly bazaars at the LoC, where traders from India and Pakistan can sell their wares, could be one way of facilitating interaction between the people of the two countries.

‘‘A Friday market on some selected border areas could open new vistas of interaction,’’ Mehbooba said.

She also said the people of Jammu and Kashmir were eagerly looking forward to the re-opening of the Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Jammu-Sialkot roads. ‘‘The foreign ministers should take up the issue of travel documents for these roads on priority basis.’’

The PDP leader said she was peeved with the way the Kashmiris were left out in the Government’s ‘‘people-to-people contact’’ programmes.

‘‘They are basically between New Delhi and Islamabad, though there is the need to let Kashmiris on both sides see and understand each other since they are the ones directly affected by the problem,’’ Mehbooba told the meeting.
