People’s Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday escaped unhurt from a crude bomb attack near Soura this afternoon while she was campaigning for the upcoming civic polls. A policeman recieved minor injuries in the blast. Eyewitnessess said two unidentified persons tossed a grenade towards Mehbooba Mufti’s cavalcade near Bilal Colony in Soura. It exploded near a security vehicle injuring the policeman.
However, the Hazratbal Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Rafiq, said the explosive device used in the attack was a crude bomb. ‘‘It was not a grenade attack but a crude bomb attack,’’ he said.
The officer said even after the attack, Mehbooba Mufti continued her programme and addressed several rallies at Nowshera and Soura localities. The Hizbul Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack.
