VADODARA, June 28: Some 47 villages in Vadodara district were recently the subject of study in a programme taken up at the Shroff Foundation Trust’s initiative. The project, titled `An Advisory Study towards Managerial Prescriptions for accelerating Socio-Economic Development in the Rural Areas of Vadodara district’, was conducted under the aegis of the Mumbai-based S P Jain Institute of Management’s voluntary summer programme, `Development of Corporate Citizenship’.

The Vadodara project was supplemented by a State Government-organised `Social Development Meet’ attended by representatives of voluntary, co-operative, corporate, academic and government sectors.

Sharing their experiences, two participants of the project, Premal Vasavada and Gurukrishnan P said, “Rural development is inescapable in India if the rural-urban relationship has to be corrected… The project sensitises young MBAs to the harsh realities of our vast rural sector. It caters to the need of the hour — a shift in outlook from financial gains to total social gains.”
