The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has expelled four MPs. While three Lok Sabha MPs were involved in the cash-for-query scam, Rajya Sabha MP Ghanshaym Chandra Kharwar has been expelled for allegedly marrying without divorcing his first wife.BSP president Mayawati said Narendra Kushwaha, Lal Chand Kol and Raja Ram Pal were expelled as they failed to prove their innocence. The three have already been expelled from Parliament. The BSP, she said, believed that maintaining the sanctity of Parliament was the foremost duty of every citizen. ‘‘This was the reason that we had suspended our three MPs for taking bribe to raise questions in Parliament much before the report of the Parliamentary Committee came.’’On Kharwar’s marriage, Mayawati said, ‘‘It is not only a violation of social and legal foundations of our country but also an act of immorality. We condemn any such activity and expel Kharwar from the party with immediate effect to send a clear message among the party cadres that social considerations are important for BSP.’’Sources said Kharwar and his ‘‘second wife’’ Meena alias Sabina Khan were caught in Shramjivi Express in Delhi by his wife Pushpa Rani when the MP was returning to Sultanpur, his hometown. The MP was later grilled by the GRP where he reportedly claimed that he had married Meena and not told his first wife about it.Mayawati said social justice was central to the BSP and anyone who would try to trespass the rules of the society won’t be tolerated. The BSP chief also warned of action against two party MPs—Bhalchand Yadav and Ramakant Yadav—who allegedly acquired passports and visas through unlawful means.‘‘The BSP takes seriously the information that two of our MPs allegedly procured passport illegally. Strong action will be initiated against them if they were found guilty in the inquiry,’’ she said without naming the MPs. Mayawati warned her partymen, including MPs, MLAs, ‘‘not to indulge in any illegal or anti-social activity’’.About Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s statement that he had evidence against her, she said, ‘‘Had he got any evidence, he would not have been sitting quietly,’’ she said.EC ready to hold by-electionsNEW DELHI: The Election Commission will be ready to hold by-polls for the Lok Sabha seats that have fallen vacant following the expulsion of 10 MPs for their role in the cash-for-questions scam after the revised electoral rolls are published. The Lok Sabha secretariat has already informed the Election Commission about the action against the MPs.
