Kanshi Ram’s younger brothers, Dalbara Singh and Harbans Lal on Tuesday accused Mayawati of keeping the BSP leader in ‘‘detention’’ and not allowing his relatives to meet him. Addressing a press meet, they expressed fear that she may even ‘‘kill’’ him as he differed with her on political issues and demanded a CBI inquiry into the whole affair.The attack came just two days before the results are to be declared for the general elections. If these throw up a hung House — as predicted — Mayawati could very well play a kingmaker’s role.Kanshi Ram’s brothers alleged that Mayawati was not even allowing them to talk to him on the telephone, after they went to meet him without seeking her permission.‘‘Our relatives complain that whenever they go to meet him without telling anyone, he appears alright. But whenever Mayawati is in the know, he appears drugged,’’ said Dalbara.Recounting their mother Bishan Kaur’s meeting with Kanshi on April 24, they said he seemed okay and had a long conversation with her. ‘‘He expressed the desire to return to his native village Khauspura. But ever since, we’ve not been allowed to talk to him even on the phone.’’Dismissing the allegations, BSP spokesman Sudhir Goyal said Kanshi Ram hadn’t met Dalbara and Harbans in years, and had no ties with them. ‘‘Kanshi Ram stopped meeting these two brothers ever since he founded the Bahujan Samaj movement, when he renounced all family ties. The only people he is in touch with in his family, are his mother, sister and her husband. In fact, his brother-in-law has been with Kanshi Ram through his illness.’’Dalbara and Harbans, however, alleged that the reason Mayawati was keeping Kanshi Ram detained is because she wanted to control both the BSP and Kanshi’s personal assets.‘‘He differs with her on various political alliances. She could even kill him for her vested interests,’’ the brothers alleged, demanding a CBI inquiry.Dalbara alleged that Mayawati has even restrained Kanshi Ram from addressing the media. ‘‘She’s always there with him anytime mediapersons are allowed anywhere near him.’’The brothers also claimed that even though Kanshi Ram’s well-wishers had expressed the desire to shift him to the US for better treatment, Mayawati had put her foot down.
