NEW DELHI, OCT 28: Marxism is a chapter in the political science text book of Class XII. It is missing this year from the curriculum. The Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE says it8217;s a 8220;printer8217;s devil8221;.
To justify their seemingly absurd argument, they cite the Hindi curriculum in which they claim Marxism finds a place along with four other theories of Fascism, Liberalism, Gandhism and Socialism.
Amid outcries of saffron bias, the Director Academic of CBSE, G Balasubramanian, said:8220;It8217;s a printer8217;s devil,8221; and added,8220;In fact, it came to my notice only two days back. And I believe this has only happened in the English edition. It very much exists in the Hindi edition. God knows how it skipped our notice.8221;
But academicians are not convinced. Most of them think that it is part of a saffron conspiracy to erase Marxism from the textbook. 8220;How can you not have the theory of Marx in political science?8221; said Suman Kumar, principal of Blue Bells School. 8220;It is a sound pillar of the politicalhistory in the world. However, we were never intimated directly by the CBSE. It could be that they were contemplating the move,8221; she said.
Agreed Loveleen Kapoor, the political science teacher of Bal Bharti Public School, Pitampura. 8220;The theory in itself is not a very difficult subject that any step of removal was meant for the benefit of the students.8221;
