Following the scathing attack from UPA’s key ally after India’s vote on Iran at the IAEA meeting, PM Manmohan Singh will meet Left leaders tomorrow morning, ostensibly to give details of the Indian position on the issue.

CPI general secretary A B Bardhan, CPI national secretary D Raja and CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury will meet the PM to draw attention to what they feel is India’s change of position on the Iran issue, which they have described as a surrender to the US.

About the upcoming meeting, Bardhan said: ‘‘We’ll ask why India changed its stated position on the Iran issue.’’ Referring to the foreign secretary’s statement on the IAEA vote, he said, ‘‘They are saying that this resolution, which is a condemnation of Iran, is actually for its benefit. How do you explain this?’’

However, he conceded that India would find it tough to make a U-turn after the vote. Both the CPM and the CPI had lashed out against the government following the voting on Iran with CPM general secretary Prakash Karat saying that India had caved in to US pressure.
