Afghan President Hamid Karzai, in a letter to the family of Maniyappan Raman Kutty, has described his death as ‘‘ultimate sacrifice’’.

Karzai noted that the BRO employee—working on a road project in Afghanistan—who was abducted and killed on Tuesday, was a victim of ‘‘merciless terrorists.’’ Maniyappan was working on the Zaranj-Delaram highway.

Expressing his condolences on behalf of the people of Afghanistan to the family members, Karzai wrote: ‘‘The Afghan people recognize, and will remember, that Maniyappan paid the ultimate sacrifice while working on construction of a road for Afghanistan.’’
