Man lynched for raping friend’s wife

According to the police, Balu Bhuriya, a construction labourer from Dahod district, was living in a kuccha house with his wife and three daughters at an under construction site on Kosad Road in Amreli. Balu became friends with Satish Koli, a truck driver, at the site. Satish, meanwhile, had cast an evil eye on Balu’s wife.

Satish once told Balu that he can earn more money through black magic and the magic should be done at home. On Friday night, Satish went to Balu’s house to perform black magic and told him that only his wife should remain in the house and the others should wait outside. Balu did as he was asked. Taking advantage, Satish raped Balu’s 25-year-old wife and later escaped through a window.

Upon hearing an alarm raised by his wife, Balu entered the house and learnt about the rape.

With the help of his friends—Dashrat, Narpat and Ramesh—Balu chased Satish and caught him just around the corner of the street. Balu and his friends then tied Satish to an electric pole near their house and beat him severely with sticks.

Someone informed the police about the incident. Amroli police rushed to the spot and found Satish in an unconscious state. He was immediately rushed to the SMIMER Hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.

Inspector VG Patel of Amroli police said: “The motive behind the murder was clear, but Balu should not have taken the law into his hands; he should have approached the police for justice. We have launched a search operation for Balu and his three accomplices. We have sent the rape victim for medical examination to the New Civil Hospital in Surat.”
