Midnapore (WB), Jan 15: Maninder Singh Bitta, chairman of the Anti-Terrorist Front, today demanded Z plus’ security for Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee as "there is a threat to her life".

Stating that he had information that the life of Banerjee is in danger’, Bitta told reporters if the authorities ignored his demand he would send two hundred Front volunteers to protect Banerjee. The present security arrangement for Banerjee was inadequate, he said.

The former youth Congress president, who came here to visit Chotto Angra village where 18 persons were reported to have been massacred on January 4, said after a thorough study of the incident he would submit a report to President K R Narayanan, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Home Minister L K Advani.

Bitta said "CPI(M) with the help of the police has killed many people in different areas and unleashed political terrorism in the state."

He said "an alliance of all right-minded parties, including the BJP, is essential to remove the Left Front government from power."

He, however, ducked a question on state PCC president Pranab Mukherjee’s statement that Congress did not like BJP’s inclusion in any alliance. "I do not know what Pranab Mukerjee said, but an alliance is essential to remove CPI(M)-led government."

Announcing that he would give an ex-gratia of Rs 15,000 the family of adult victims and Rs 5,000 to the family of minors, Bitta said he had learnt that the 18 bodies of the TC workers were removed by the CPI(M) with the help of the police to wipe out evidence.

"It is surprising enough that the police did not start investigation even after three days of the incident," Bitta said demanding a CBI probe into the incident and imposition of President’s Rule in West Bengal before the ensuing state assembly elections.
