The family of Maj Gen A K Lal, GOC of the Leh-based 3 Infantry Division who is facing a Court of Inquiry following allegations of harassment by a lady officer, on Thursday rubbished the charges levelled against him by Capt Neha Rawat, and termed her conduct unworthy of an officer.
Addressing a press conference here, Silpi Lal Sharma, elder daughter of Maj Gen Lal, and his sister Archana Sharma alleged that Rawat was posted at the 3 Infantry Division only three months ago, and had already received three warnings regarding her misconduct.
“Capt Rawat has been reportedly warned against socialising with men. She was given a written warning in this regard by her commanding officer and seniors,” alleged Silpi.
She also produced before the media copies of reports warning Capt Rawat against late-night partying on August 18. Earlier, she and three male officers were issued a written warning for leaving the battalion without permission on the night of June 14.
Silpi further alleged that Capt Rawat was put under surveillance by the command during her previous posting at Signal Corps with 1 Armoured Division (Signal Unit) in Ambala on account of her unreasonable conduct.
In a tele-conference with the media, Akanksha Lal, wife of Maj. Gen Lal, said: “There could be hundred of reasons for her complaint. I cannot say for sure what her motives could be, but she had been telling officers here that she would not stay here for long and would get posted out very soon.”
She maintained that Maj Gen Lal had always treated Capt Rawat like a daughter and had asked her to shun drinking on August 29 when she had dinner at their place along with other lady officers and family friends. “She did not take the advice in good stead and got agitated. Maj Gen Lal had complained about her misconduct to the Corps Commander as well,” alleged Akansha Lal.
