Suman Mahato, wife of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP the late Sunil Mahato, on Thursday filed her nomination papers as a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha by-election in presence of senior UPA leaders.
Apart from Chief Minister Madhu Koda, two deputy CMs Stephen Marandi and Sudhir Mahato and Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator Girinath Singh accompanied Suman to the office of the Returning Officer at Jamshedpur.
Later, while addressing mediapersons, Suman said her husband had worked for his constituency selflessly and the people knew he had lost his life because he always championed their cause and fought against Naxalites.
This time, the BJP has fielded former health minister Dinesh Sadangi as its candidate. Speaking on the occasion, the Jharkhand Chief Minister said Suman’s victory was a certainty.
The seat fell vacant after CPI-ML (Maoist) cadres gunned down Sunil Mahato near Ghatsila in East Singhbhum district on March 4, 2007. Two of his bodyguards and a party colleague were also killed in the attack during a football match organised to mark Holi about 40 km from his constituency of Jamshedpur. In 2004 poll, Mahato had defeated BJP’s sitting MP Abha Mahato.
