CHENNAI, Aug 13: All the eight pre-quarterfinal matches went as per billing with better AITA ranked boys making the quarter-final grade in the IOB National Junior Hard Court tennis championships here today.

Top seed Vijay Kannan of Delhi scored a straight sets win against Ananth Sitaram (AP) 6-2, 6-4 but the next two seeds Sanzaruz Zaman (WB-second) and Manoj Mahadevan (TN-third) were given a fright by their respective Tamil Nadu opponents.

Akshay Jagdale and Mustafa Ghouse (both Mah), P Chaturvedi (Del), Ravikiran Bhat (Kar) and Avinash Arun (TN) have also made it to the quarter-finals.Vijay Rajagopal, knowing the strong and weak points of Manoj Mahadevan, gave a stiff fight to the latter before losing 4-6, 6-3, 2-6. Mahadevan managed to claim the first 6-4 with a break in the 10th game. But Rajagopal, with an improved percentage of first serves, won the second 6-3. In the decider, Rajagopal made several unforced errors to help Mahadevan win 6-2.
