BioBeer is a genetically modified beer, which was produced by student researchers for a competition in Texas that tests GM products.

It is brewed with a specific yeast that produces resveratrol, a chemical in red wine believed to protect against heart disease, diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

However, BioBeer is very unlikely to go on sale because of its ‘unappetising’ taste.

“No way would anyone drink this until it tastes better,” British tabloid The Sun quoted Thomas Segall-Shapiro as saying.

The scientists who created the beer are ironically too young to drink in the state, which bans alcohol consumption until 21.
