Once India8217;s next coach is decided upon, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is also thinking of inviting applications to appoint an assistant coach for the Indian team and a full-time team manager.
According to top officials in the BCCI, 8220;this is an afterthought to the way things have happened over the last one year.8221;
The board has enough reasons logged in its file over complaints regarding players8217; misbehaviour, lack of communication, coach8217;s inability to keep an eye on emerging players, travel hazards and exchange of ideas with team members.
The board members now feel that this is an issue waiting to be sorted out, especially with a foreign coach expected to be appointed once again.
Recent fallouts in the team, especially after the World Cup in West Indies 8212; when team manager Sanjay Jagdale presented a detailed report 8212; is another major reason for this step to be taken.
8220;It is being perceived that there has to be an Indian in the camp, apart from the coaching staff, who can be of some help. But it is still in the deciding process,8221; the board official added.
Names like Gundappa Viswanath or even Chetan Chauhan have already been discussed in this regard. In addition to this, it was also rumoured that Srinivas Venkatraghavan, former captain and umpire, could be the man in contention for a full-time tour manager.
The board official, however, dismissed these rumours. 8220;8216;We haven8217;t discussed any names yet but we could do that once the main issues are solved,8221; he said.
It should be mentioned here that with a fielding and bowling coach in place, there is a possibility that a full-time batting coach may also be appointed in order to make it a complete coaching team of four, apart from the manager. If the BCCI opts to appoint a full-time assistant coach, the head coach of the National Cricket Academy NCA 8212; Lalchand Rajput at the moment 8212; may be asked to take charge.
