LONDON, JULY 7: Britain’s prominent educational institution Leicester University has signed a five-year agreement with Pune University to encourage joint initiatives, including contacts at academic, administrative and research level.

The agreement was signed here on Tuesday by the visiting Pro Vice-Chancellor of Pune University and officials of Leicester University.

A Leicester University spokeswoman told PTI the agreement would facilitate fruitful academic exchanges between staff, students and graduates of the two institutions. She said the exchange of information would include library material and research publications.

The agreement also paves the way for starting joint research projects, initially in the field of chemistry, she said.

Commenting on the agreement, Prof Gordon Campbell of Leicester University said, “The supremacy of Pune is rivalled in India only by Bangalore, and Leicester University was delighted to be party to this arrangement with such an institution”.

He said as partof the agreement a delegation from Leicester University would attend an education fair in Pune in November.
