From milan to paris, from New York to New Delhi, the one thing that figured on most designer’s style sheet for the season is leggings. Manish Arora had multi-coloured kitschy ones screaming out for attention in his space-inspired collection for autumn-winter, Karl Lagerfeld’s skating skirts were teamed with matching leggings and bobble-knit sweaters at Paris while Nicolas Ghesquiere of Balenciaga introduced gold-plated leggings that had fashionistas swooning for more. “Leggings give the wearer a very young peppy look,” says Delhi designer Varun Bahl, “If you are a conservative dresser, then you can go with solid colours—beiges and maroons and reds to off-set your staid outfit. But if you like to dress it up, then the ideal thing to do is to go for printed leggings that contrast with your outfit.” The one thing to remember when you choose your leggings is not to go over the top. “It never does to choose one which clashes with your outfit. For instance, never wear a paisley print with bright striped leggings. The ideal choice in this case would be to go for a more muted polka dot,” he advises. So get set for some leg action this winter.
