In a business where youth sets the pace, and the combined age of recording companies have just entered double digit figures, the deeply-lined face of Lata Mangeshkar and her septugenarian songwriter, Prime Minister Vajpayee, stand out, as they co-scripted album Antarnaad.

Atal, which is Lata in reverse as Lata reminded, sang to his verse today. The duo will probably set another record for Music Curry to talk about in the coming days.

At the release of the album, Lata confessed to putting all prior engagements on hold to hear Vajpayee speak. ‘‘I see music in his speeches. I must have been his daughter in previous birth,’’ she said. The PM returned the compliment, saying ‘‘tum gao, mera geet amar ho jaye’’. Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat formally released the CD and the cassette.

Among those present were R. Venkataraman, K.C. Pant, Arun Shourie, B.C. Khanduri and Ravi Shankar Prasad, Najma Heptulla, Pramod Mahajan and noted jurist L.M. Singhvi. Lata’s sister, Usha Mangeshkar, and brother, Adinath, whose music company undertook the task of releasing the album, were also present.
