RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav today introduced his younger son Tejaswee Prasad on the political dais of Bihar.
At a public meeting to mark the filing of nomination papers by his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi from the Raghopur Assembly seat, Laloo Prasad said: ‘‘He is my son, he has defeated the cricket team of (Bihar BJP leader Sushil) Modi’s son. I want him to join politics but he says not now.’’ Laloo then brought Tejaswee before the crowds and asked him to say ‘‘Namaskar’’.
Clad in a T-shirt and jeans, Tejaswee did as he was told. The 15-year-old is the younger of Laloo’s two sons. A student of Delhi Public School, RK Puram, Tejaswee, who plays cricket, was felicitated by Rabri Devi in 2003 with Bihar’s highest sports honour.
Today, Laloo Prasad flaunted his achievements as Railway Minister: ‘‘Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a learned man and he has praised my work in the Railways. Vote us to power and I will do the same in Bihar,’’ he declared.
This is the first time that Laloo and Rabri introduced one of their children at a political function. Until now, all their nine children had stayed away from politics. At one stage, some RJD workers had declared Tejpratap, the elder son, as the future Chief Minister of Bihar. But Laloo had objected. His brothers-in-law, Sadhu Yadav and Subhash Yadav, have fallen out of favour.
Rabri Devi, meanwhile, filed her nomination for the Raghopur Assembly seat today. The former Chief Minister filed her papers at the Hajipur sub-divisional officer’s office.
