PATNA, FEBRUARY 20: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders today charged RJD supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav with having “masterminded” the attack on JD-U president and Union Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav in Madhepura and called for immediate removal of Madhepura district magistrate and police superintendent.
Addressing a joint press conference with JD-U leader Laxmi Sahu, opposition leader in state assembly S K Modi and state BJP president Nand Kishore Yadav, claimed that Sharad Yadav suffered injuries in his ankle and wrist in the attack.
They said an estimated Rs 45 lakh was likely to be spent to repair the damaged helicopter in which Sharad earlier today arrived in Madhepura for refuelling.
“Out of sheer desperation RJD president is incensing his supporters to take recourse to violence,” Modi said alleging that Laloo was obviously “behind all such sinister design.”
Modi alleged that today’s attack was “a deliberate act to eliminate JD-U leader Sharad Yadav.
He said NDA leaders including the Civil Aviation Minister had approached the Election Commission for immediate removal of “biased” district magistrate and police superintendent of Madhepura.
Meanwhile, the Sitamarhi district administration has instituted a case against Sharad Yadav for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
District magistrate-cum-district returning officer, Sitamarhi, Surendra Singh Meena told reporters here today that the JD(U) president arrived here by a helicopter and addressed an election meeting "without prior permission."
He said the district administration has instituted a case against Yadav for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
Earlier, Laloo said his party would form government with the support of Congress in the event of a hung-assembly.
Talking to pti here, Yadav, however, claimed that “the Rabri Devi ministry will stage a comeback with thumping majority and thus it will not require support from Congress."
He refuted the allegations that large-scale bungling had taken place in distribution of RJD tickets.
"There was no room for the opportunists in RJD and we denied nominations to such people," Yadav added.
