
NAWANSHAHR, Dec 6: Deputy Commissioner Roshan Sunkaria inaugurated the Pulse Polio drive in the district by administering polio drops to infants at the local civil hospital. He disclosed that about 62,770 children in the age group of 0-5 years would be immunised against polio at 520 camps including 21 mobile ones in the district during the first phase of the polio eradication drive.
Amritsar: Health and family welfare department today started the 4th round of pulse polio immunisation. Deputy Commissioner Narinderjit Singh inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to the children. He visited a few camps to inspect the work of health functionaries and non-government organisations.
Civil surgeon Raj Inder Singh informed that 1,700 such camps were organised in the rural and urban areas and special mobile teams were constituted to cover the floating population and urban slums. He said 450 teams will provide service to the four lakh needy children.
Patiala: Deputy Commissioner Vishwajeet Khanna inaugurated the first phase of pulse polio programme in the district at the Rajpura colony dispensary here. Civil surgeon, Kartar Singh Johar told ENS that the department had set up 801 camps in the district to immunize 2,16,214 children of different age groups below five years.
Shimla: The pulse polio was launched here by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at a state-level function organised in the Town Hall. Nearly 6.50 lakh children were administered polio drops in HP at 4,500 booths.
Besides the Chief Minister, Health Minmister J.P. Nadda, Minister of State for Urban Development Roop Dass Kashyap and Mayor Manoj Kumar also administered the polio drops to the children.
Bhiwani: Haryana chief minister Bansi Lal launched the intensive pulse polio immunization campaign at Ravidas Community Centre and government high school, Hanuman Dham here today. He said the state government had established a total of 8918 immunization sites, out of which 7193 were in rural areas and 1725 in urban areas. The immunization sites had been established in all villages with population of more than one thousand people and in urban areas with three thousand population. Besides these,about 520 mobile teams had also been constituted for administering polio drops in the areas like Dhanis, brick kilins, construction sites and other high risk areas.
The chief minister said that this year`s special emphasis would be on the areas with low routine coverage, urban slums, areas having confirmed polio cases and the areas having large influx of migrant population. For covering cent percent children in these areas besides static posts, mobile teams had been pressed into service and supervision of these areas was also strengthened. The members of the static posts and the supervisors would go from house to house during the lean hours in the afternoon to find out whether the polio drops had been given to all the children below five years of age.
He urged the people to ensure administering of oral polio vaccine to their wards on January,17,1999 in the second phase of the programme irrespective of whether they were given the drops earlier or not.
The immunization sites had been worked out in such a way that they would cater to 250 to 350 children per post. About 27 lakh targetted children would be administered polio drops through these posts with the help of more than 25 thousand employees and social workers.
Haryana Legislative Assembly speaker, Chhatar Singh Chauhan administered polio drops to the children at village Bambla about 15 kms from here. On this occasion he exhorted the poeple to extend their full cooperation to this campaign and said that these two drops of polio vaccine could save their wards from paralysis.
Ram Bhajan Aggarwal, minister of state for tourism and home also accompanied the chief minister while administering polio drops to the children and he also gave oral polio vaccines to several children. Director general health services Haryana P.L.Jindal was also present on this occasion.
