Rebel BJP leaders Keshubhai Patel, Rajendrasinh Rana and Kashiram Rana today resigned from the BJP’s election committee for taluka and district panchayat elections.

Keshubhai’s letter to the state BJP president, Vajubhai Vala, states that the committee “has been appointed without any official meeting of party office-bearers.’’ It adds he wasn’t even told of the appointment and got to know only from the media.

‘‘In the past, whenever any crucial decision was taken, party members would sit together, discuss, debate and even consult senior members of the party. This democratic tradition seems to have been done away with,’’ Keshubhai’s letter says.

‘‘Senior party officials have not only appointed a new committee without consultation but also dissolved the earlier one without informing any member’’, it adds.

Kashiram Rana said “Modi and his loyalists cannot appoint the committee without consulting all members. They have selected members according to their own likes and dislikes… and have even left out senior leaders like Suresh Mehta.’’ Rajendrasinh Rana said he resigned because of ill-health. ‘‘I recently underwent an angioplasty. My doctor has advised rest. I am not keeping well and will not like to speak about this to the media.’’
