April 8: Kenya’s final squad of 15 named today for the World Cup in England from May 14-June 20 includes eight players who took part in the previous tournament three years ago.
Left-arm spinner Asif Karim will captain Kenya this time while all-rounder Maurice Odumbe, who led their 1996 World Cup team on the sub-continent, is vice-captain.
The party, named barely a week after Kenya’s disappointing showing at a tri-nation tournament in Bangladesh, contains no major surprises. Most of the players have been Kenyan regulars for several years. Kenya’s coach is former West Indies batsman Alvin Kallicharan.
