There seems to be no stopping Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and the Ministry of External Affairs got a taste of it recently. In the wake of the violence in Kenya, Modi wrote two letters to the Prime Minister asking the Centre to take all steps for the protection of Gujaratis there. Modi’s source of information was the Hindu Council of Kenya, an umbrella organisation of Hindu bodies in the country. Diplomats being diplomats found their own way to snuff out Modi’s angst. They leaned on the Hindu Council to issue a statement that no Indian has lost his life in Kenya. And with that ended the effort to politicise the issue any further.
