PUNE, Nov 7: The Khadki Cantonment Board KCB has developed a fetish for security. The gates of the cantonment board office which usually remained open, have now been closed with just a small portion left open for visitors to pass through.

Although the cantonment executive officer Sauvik Majumdar denies that there is any specific reason behind regulating the movement of persons inside the office, sources within the cantonment have alleged that security has been beefed up in the office owing to the threats of assault of a cantonment board official.

The CEO admitted that such an incident had taken place in the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Cantonment General Hospital sometime back and said that they had taken necessary measures to strengthen the security in the hospital. The CEO said that they were not stopping the movement of people inside the cantonment office but were just noting down the names and addresses for their own record. 8220;The office has a lot of expensive equipment and a number of vehicles. Hence we decided to monitor the movement of persons here. But this does not mean that we have stopped people from coming inside. This is a public office and hence it will always be open to people,8221; he maintained.

Sources revealed that the cantonment board had resorted to these measures following the advice of police officials. But the reasons for the alleged threats of an assault on an official remain unknown.
