Katie Hoff has set a world record in the women’s 400-meter individual medley, claiming a spot on the US Olympic team in 4 minutes 31.12 seconds.
Hoff edged the mark of 4:31.46 set by Stephanie Rice at the Australian Olympic trials in March. It was the second new world record set Sunday, the opening night of the U.S. trials. It came less than hour after Michael Phelps beat his own mark in the men’s 400 IM.
Elizabeth Beisel was second to Hoff in 4:32.87.
