Karunanidhi plea for son

DMK president M. Karunanidhi today said the arrest of his son M.K. Azhagiri in relation to the recent murder of former DMK minister T. Kiruttinan was another instance of misuse of power by the Tamil Nadu government.

In separate letters to PM A.B. Vajpayee and Deputy PM L.K. Advani, copies of which were released to media here, he said the murder of Kiruttinan was not due to intra-party feuds between the supporters of Azhagiri and M.K. Stalin, his other son.

He said police had arrested Azhagiri within 24 hours of Kiruttinan’s murder without any ‘‘well-founded’’ proof. ‘‘Police were being instigated by the state to fabricate cases,’’ he added.
