LUCKNOW, AUG 29: Former prime minister Chandra Shekhar on Sunday charged the political parties with trying to politicise the military action in Kargil to their benefit in the Lok Sabha elections.

"Instead of raising sensitive issues like illiteracy and poverty, parties are trying to politicise military action in Kargil and counting as to how many soldiers sacrificed their lives during different governments," he told an election meeting in his traditional Ballia parliamentary constituency.

He also condemned I&B Minister Pramod Mahajan for reportedly comparing the Congress president Sonia Gandhi with former US White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
